Without emergency money you will turn back to your credit cards to pay for emergencies. Single folks can usually set aside $500, but families should consider $1,000 to one month’s expenses since their expenses tend to be higher. Put the funds in an account you can’t touch.

This money is for emergencies only.Keep this money liquid, but not immediately accessible.Don’t tie your emergency fund to a debit card. Don’t sabotage your efforts by making it easy to spend the money on non-essentials. Consider opening a savings account at an online bank like I N G or Emigrant.
